Pat Whyte


Pat Whyte graduated from Athlone Institute of Technology in 1982 with an Honours degree in Plastic Engineering. Since he graduated he has spent his entire career to date working with plastics and particularly the medical device industry. Pat spent many years providing training and consultancy to the plastics industry. Pat was heavily involved in setting up First Polymer Training Skillnet (FBT) in 1998/9 and remains an active member on the board today.

In the year 2000 Pat Whyte was involved in starting Screentech Medical, Screentech Medical became a very significant supplier to the Medical Device Industry in a relatively short time. Significant product development took place in Screentech Medical and some ground breaking and novel products emerged for big names in the Medical Device sector. The first and some of the most successful over-mouldings for the medical device sector were developed in Screentech Medical including one of the most widely used RX joints for minimal invasive surgery. In 2006 Screentech Medical was acquired by Creganna Medical and the business moved from Bray to Galway where it became a significant part of Creganna’s development.

In 2006 Pat Whyte bought Micro Munlai na hEireann – Irish Micro Mouldings (IMM) and put together a business plan to develop this business as a developer and producer of plastics related products for the Medical Device Industry. Pat Whyte invested significant amounts of finance and resources to make IMM a small but very significant player in the Medical Device Industry, which it is today.

Pat Whyte has received many awards for his work in the plastics industry including an award for Services to the Plastics Industry presented at the IOM Annual Dinner in 2012 and this year he received an award from AIT for his contribution to the plastics industry. Pat Whyte has also been an active member of the IOM Polymer Group for over 25 years and a former Chairman.
